The reliable Italian journalist discussed plenty of details about the Brighton No.25 on YouTube.
Well, Romano claimed that the South American is convinced he’s going to leave Brighton this summer, as he has an agreement with Roberto De Zerbi.
The Italian said: “Chelsea are convinced that Caicedo is the perfect player for them. From sources I spoke to, the idea is that Caicedo is going to be worth £70m or £80m. No more than this.
“There is also a pact between Caicedo and Roberto De Zerbi. He will be allowed to leave the club this summer if there is an important proposal. Caicedo is really convinced that he will leave, Caicedo wants a new opportunity.
“Chelsea are leading the race in this moment for Caicedo.”
Romano’s update comes after the Evening Standard claimed that Chelsea are really optimistic about signing the 21-year-old this summer.
By all accounts, it seems as if this move is gathering pace.
Caicedo would be ideal for Chelsea
A midfield partnership of Enzo Fernandez and Caicedo is enough to make your mouth water – it simply has everything.
Chelsea could dominate under Mauricio Pochettino for many years with the South American duo in the middle of the pitch, as the Argentine is just 22 years of age, while the Ecuadorian is 21.
Fernandez and Caicedo are both technically clean footballers who can pass well, but they are also strong tacklers who can keep things secure in midfield.
If Chelsea can strike an agreement with Brighton, we would expect Caicedo to be a transformative signing – he could even have a similar impact to N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge.
