It’s vital to wash your face twice a day, whether or not you have acne, to remove pollutants, dead skin cells, and excess oil from your skin’s surface. Washing more than twice a day isn’t always better; it could also be harmful. Use a gentle face cleanser and warm, not hot, water. Using a strong soap (such as deodorant body soap) will irritate already inflamed skin more.

Scrubbing your skin with a washcloth, an exfoliating glove, or a loofah is not recommended (a coarse-textured sponge). Wash it gently with a soft towel or your hands. Always rinse thoroughly before patting your skin dry with a clean cloth.

2. Moisturize your skin.

Because many acne products contain components that dry out the skin, always apply a moisturizer that helps to prevent dryness and peeling. On the label, look for the words “noncomedogenic,” which means it won’t cause acne. Moisturizers are available for oily, dry, and mixed skin types.

3. Make use of an over-the-counter acne treatment.

There is no need for a prescription for these acne treatments. Most of them contain antibacterial substances like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or lactic acid, which dry out your skin. Start with a tiny amount at initially because they may cause dryness or peeling. Then you may modify how much and how often you use it. A new OTC topical retinoid gel is another option (Differin 0.1 percent gel).

4. Don’t overdo it with the makeup.

Wearing foundation, powder, or blush during a breakout should be avoided. If you must use makeup, make sure you remove it at the end of the day. Choose oil-free cosmetics with no additional colours or chemicals if at all feasible. Make sure your cosmetics is “noncomedogenic,” which means it won’t clog your pores. Before purchasing a product, read the ingredient list on the label.

5. Pay attention to what you put in your hair.

On your hair, avoid using scents, oils, pomades, or gels. They can clog your pores and irritate your skin if they get on your face. Use a shampoo and conditioner that are gentle on the hair. Wash your hair frequently, especially if you’re breaking out, because oily hair can add to the oil on your face.
