However, some situations may cause people to feel discomfort upon waking up in the morning and one of them is an early morning headache.

For some people, early morning headaches tend to happen regularly, while it happens once in a while for some other people, but there is always a reason behind the headaches.

According to the International Health Society, there are over 150 different types of headaches but those that occur when you wake up in the morning can be classified into any of these;

1. Grinding Your Teeth (Bruxism)

Bruxism is a tension-related disorder that causes people to grind and clench their teeth either in their sleep or when they are awake, they however may not be aware they are doing it.

According to Healthline, the headache caused by sleep bruxism is usually dull and it is felt close to your temples.

Treatment:

To tackle early morning headaches that may be caused by sleep bruxism, the person in question needs to use a mouth guard while sleeping, seek treatment for anxiety and stress, and carry out tongue and jaw exercises.

2. Alcohol Consumption And Drugs

Drinking too much at night could cause one to have a hangover upon waking up in the morning, and this mostly includes a headache.

The nauseating feeling, tiredness, thirst, and a few other symptoms are associated with a hangover and the origin of it all is alcohol intake.

Some drugs and medications like over-the-counter painkillers could however also cause early morning headaches when overused.

Treatment:

3. Snoring And Sleep Apnea

These two work to distort sleep and this can ultimately lead to an early morning headache, it is however a point that snoring can be a symptom of sleep apnea in some cases where it isn’t a condition on its own.
