Goals likely on both sides when Chelsea face Liverpool
The standout game of the opening matchday will see Chelsea hosting Liverpool. After a busy transfer window, the Blues will hope to claim a statement victory under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
We expect the Blues to find enough chances against Liverpool’s out-of-form backline. However, the Reds’ improved attacking setup, combined with Chelsea’s pre-season displays, convince us that we will see goals on both ends.
Back Newcastle to beat Aston Villa
Newcastle come into the new season on the back of an excellent 2022-23 campaign. Eddie Howe’s men have shown no signs of slowing down during the pre-season, signing the likes of Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes.
After a string of fantastic attacking displays in friendly matches, Newcastle have a good chance of putting pressure on Aston Villa’s backline.
On the other hand, Villa’s poor results in away games last season suggest they won’t be able to prevent Newcastle from outscoring them on Saturday.
Don’t expect goals when Sheffield United meet Palace
Crystal Palace finished 11th in the Premier League last season, scoring 40 goals. A number of narrow wins helped Palace secure a top-half finish in the league.
