Recall that Ronaldo has failed to make Erik Ten Hag’s starting xi in the 2022/23 season which caused a lot of friction between the player and the new manager. His contract was later terminated and he joined Al Nassr after the FIFA world cup.
However, there are possible reasons why the new Al Nassr forward Ronaldo failed to make the 2023 FIFA team of the year. Firstly, he failed to win a single trophy in 2022 and his team couldn’t even secure a champions league spot in the 2021/22 season.
Another possible reason is because Ronaldo was less productive than Mbappe and Karim Benzema in 2022. However, Cristiano Ronaldo played as a striker in the 2021/22 season and Benzema who is named striker in the 2023 FIFA team of the year, won the Ballon D’or award in 2022.
Benzema didn’t only won the Ballon D’or award, but also won Champions league, European golden boot award, La Liga and other individual award, while Ronaldo couldn’t even win Premier league golden boot award. Judging by Benzema’s success in 2022, There is no way Ronaldo would be selected ahead of the French Forward.
