It is reported that the police officer allegedly hit an eyewitness on his head using his handcuffs when the civilian questioned the police over delays in processing the scene.
However, following a heated exchange of words between the officer and the witnesses who had gathered around the scene, one of the civilians is said to have choked the officer using a shirt.
In reaction to the assault, the officer resulted to hitting the man using his handcuffs, an action that angered the residents.
Irate residents reportedly, descended on the officer, raining blows on him and eventually landing the officer in a ditch.
He is reported to have been badly injured during the incident and is nursing injuries. His colleagues who attempted to save him also landed in trouble after the mob descended on them.
The altercation was occasioned by the accident which was stated to involve a boda boda that was sandwiched between two lorries. Details of the accident reveal that the rider of the motorbike lost his life on the spot while his passenger survived.
The passenger was rushed to the Naivasha General Hospital where she is nursing serious injuries. In the recent past, police officers have been victims of mob justice-related incidents with several cases being reported.
