The two, Joel Githaiga and PC Martin Murimi will be detained until April 25. In a miscellaneous application, the prosecution claims that ammunition that the two officers sold are believed to commit crimes of murder and banditry within Laikipia County and adjacent counties.

“That other suppliers and buyers of the ammunition are still at large and there is need to hold the suspect, conduct further investigations and make more arrests,” reads the application.

In affidavit by Nicholas Njoroge ,three metallic boxes containing 750 rounds of ammunition each ,15 small metallic boxes containing 25 rounds each and 33 uncovered rounds in an empty metallic box all rounds totaling to 2,658 ammunition of caliber 7.62 by 39 mm were recovered from the officers.

The court was told that the two officers are attached ASTU C Company. The parties through lawyer Danstan Omari said that they are not objecting to the application to have them detained for five days however he requested they be escorted to hospital for medical checkup.

“Joel is a sharp shooter and is ready to cooperate with the investigations, he has high blood pressure and is diabetic,” Omari submitted.

The prosecution was in agreement with the application and urged the court to detain one in Kilimani and another at Muthaiga police station.

Magistrate Simon Themu ordered OCS Kilimani to comply with the directives and take Joel to hospital. The matter will be mentioned on April 25 this year for further directions and to confirm status of investigations..<<CONTINUE READING>>
