Conor Gallagher’s attempt, which was deflected off Lewis Dunk and soared high and beyond Robert Sanchez in the Brighton goal, gave the West Londoners the lead against the run of play in the 13th minute.

Before Chelsea’s goal, the visitors had a chance to take the lead when Ewan Ferguson’s attempt came off the crossbar, but after he was forced to leave the game due to injury, Danny Welbeck headed in a cross from Pascal Gross three minutes before halftime.

The Blues came close to taking the lead again before halftime when Christian Pulisic hit the post, but Brighton dominated the second half and finally got what they deserved when Enciso, who had earlier hit the post from a tight angle near the touchline, fired an arrow from 30 yards out that gave Kepa Arrizabalaga no chance.
With a game still to play against the Magpies, the victory moves Brighton, into 7th, within seven points of a Champions League spot. Chelsea stays in eleventh place.
