As usual this summer, Jürgen Klopp insisted that Liverpool would only return to the transfer market for “the right players”. One such player is available in the form of Leicester City star Youri Tielemans....CONTINUE READING

It has not been an easy start to the season for the Premier League and Champions League winners.

Liverpool went into the 2022-23 season with a seemingly solid transfer plan, buying Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay right at the start of the transfer window and appearing to supplement an already talented squad in doing so.

But as the old saying goes: “The best laid plans of mice and men often come to naught”.

A number of injuries have left the club dangerously short of key players, particularly in midfield.

The Reds, who began the new campaign with two draws and a loss to Manchester United and are 16th in the Premier League after three games, are without Nabi Keita, Curtis Jones, Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Of course, it’s still early days, but this tough start seems to have changed Klopp’s mind about strengthening his usually formidable team.

“We’re constantly working on these kinds of things and we’ve talked in the past about why sometimes it doesn’t happen,” he told reporters ahead of Saturday’s test at home to Bournemouth.

“Sometimes it’s costly, sometimes it’s not the right players, but then the situation changes. It has to be the right players and that’s what we’re working on. Whether something will happen or not I don’t know.”

Tielemans is Klopp’s favourite player and seems to be a real player who fits into any box. The 25-year-old Belgian international has an excellent reputation for his exploits at Leicester and has contributed much in his four seasons in the English top flight so far.

The Belgian star is perfect for Liverpool:

The former Monaco and Anderlecht player is as reliable as you could hope for in the middle of the pitch, leading Leicester’s engine room with panache and commitment, while posing a threat in the final third, having scored six crosses and four assists in the last two Premier League seasons.

With his unwavering passing and superb vision, the player is an ideal replacement for Thiago when he finds himself on the sidelines, and would only add to his wealth when the former Barcelona and Bayern player returns. Moreover, he could be available at an extremely affordable price.

According to Belgian media, Leicester, who are aware that Tieleman’s contract expires next June, could sell their star player for just £17 million, which is a real bargain for a player of his quality.

Not that it would be their own: Arsenal want to buy the Belgian in 2023, when his contract expires, but could be forced to act immediately if Liverpool’s interest becomes public.

After the unpleasant surprises of recent weeks, the Reds don’t have much time to act. Something needs to be done in midfield, it seems, and they could do a lot worse than Leicester’s dynamic star.
