Which brings us to the real deal, below is how Manchester United’s 2022 summer transfer window could look like if certain moves push through.

Potential out

Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata are 5 Manchester United players set to leave at end of this month. With 3 of the listed 5 players being midfielders, Manchester United’s primary aim will be to sign a suitable replacement for Paul Pogba. And Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong is an alternative for Manchester United.

Phil Jones is another player most likely to leave this summer, after failing to make a competitive appearance for Manchester United since January 2022. Dean Henderson could also be shipped-out, after turning 25 few months ago.

In summary, a total number of 7 players are expected to leave this summer, setting the number of incomings expected at Old Trafford this summer.

Potential in

5 departures has been confirmed by Manchester United this summer, so the Red Devils are expected to have a busy transfer window in terms of summer arrivals.

With Pogba, Mata and Nemanja Magic set to depart this summer, Manchester United will be keen on bringing in Frenkie De Jong from Barcelona this summer, despite the Dutchman’s desire to remain at Camp Nou.

Erik ten Hag will be looking to sign Frenkie De Jong for Manchester United this summer, to act as Paul Pogba’s replacement. And according to reports, Barcelona will be ready to sell the Dutchman to Manchester United, if the Red Devils are ready to pay £60m for his services.

Other midfielders that has been linked with Manchester United includes, Leeds Kalvin Phillips and West Ham’s Declan Rice. However the England duo are expected to remain at their respective clubs this summer.

Wolves Ruben Neves is another alternative for Manchester United, however the Red Devils will have to face off competition from fierce rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for his services.

In the area of defence, Sevilla’s Pau Torres is still a potential target for Manchester United, however Ajax’s Jurrien Timber is most likely to join Manchester United this summer.

Contracts

This is an area where there is a little work to be done, however there is only one pressing issue and that is the future of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese icon joined Manchester United in the summer of 2021 on a two-year-deal, however the Red Devils are contemplating on his future. Offer him another contract or let him leave when his contract is due?

Well, that question is left for Erik Ten Hag to decide as the Dutchman prepares for life at the Premier League next season.
