It was discovered that Yahaya Bello would be asked questions by the commission over his eight years in office. Following the conclusion of his term and reign as Kogi State’s executive governor, Bello’s immunity expired.

According to Daily Times, Bello can be detained by the commission if he loses his immunity for alleged financial violations and money laundering during his tenure as the former governor of Kogi State. Bello’s final week as Kogi State’s youngest governor was covered by Sahara Reporters last Saturday. Usman Ododo, his party boy, succeeded him.

Citing the 1999 constitution’s protection from prosecution, Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, dismissed the commission’s suit demanding the forfeiture of 14 of Yahaya Bello’s properties as well as the sum of N400 million connected to the Kogi State governor.

According to the Commission’s notice of appeal, Justice Oweibo erred in law when he dismissed the suit because properties that are plausibly the proceeds of crime that can be linked to the Respondent are not protected from civil or criminal proceedings while he was Kogi State’s governor.
