The Super Eagles, who are aiming for a third consecutive appearance at the continental extravaganza, are on a five-game winless streak and will be looking to break it.

Sierra Leone’s last match was on March 29, when they defeated Congo 2-1 in a friendly match at the Mardan Sports Complex.

Kallum Cesay, a Tottenham youngster, scored twice in the second half to put the Leone Stars ahead, before Vieljeux Prestige Mboungou equalized from the penalty spot in the last minutes.

Nigeria, on the other hand, struggled to find their footing in a friendly match against Ecuador last Friday, losing 1-0.

Pervis Estupinan of Villarreal scored the game’s only goal in the first three minutes to give Gustavo Alfaro’s side a slim victory at the Red Bull Arena.

This came after a 2-1 loss to Mexico on May 25, in which Cyriel Dessers equalized Santiago Gimenez’s first-half opener before El Tri won thanks to an own goal by William Troost-Ekong.

Since securing three successive wins in Group D of the 2022 AFCON back in January, Nigeria has failed to win in each of their last five games across all competitions, drawing two and losing three.

The Super Eagles have gone undefeated in their last six qualifying games, winning four and drawing two. They are aiming for a third consecutive Africa Cup of Nations appearance.

CONCLUSION:

Nigeria will attempt to regain some respect when they return home after having their World Cup qualification hopes dashed in March. Sierra Leone, on the other hand, will be hoping to keep the momentum going.
