POLITICS NIGERIA learnt that the security augmentation became necessary as a result of privileged information made available to top officials of the agency that adequate care and security measures must be taken to ensure that Kyari and other outside forces do not spring the suspects from detention.

In fact, since 3.30 pm on Thursday, no visitor was allowed into the premises of the NDLEA, based on stern directives given by the agency boss, Brigadier General Buba Marwa. Marwa was quoted to have said he would be disappointed to learn that the suspects escaped.

The police had earlier indicted Kyari, who had been on suspension for alleged involvement in a fraud case involving a former Nigerian Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abass, aka Huspuppi, being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

They said Kyari’s involvement in the recent allegation occurred while his suspension from service was subsisting.

On Monday, the police handed police officers involved in the cocaine deal to the NDLEA.

They include Kyari, Sunday Ubuah, an assistant commissioner of police, Bawa James, an assistant superintendent of police; Simon Agrigba, an inspector, and John Nuhu. John Umoru was said to be at large.
