Amidst the escalating battle for leadership in Mt. Kenya, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asserted himself as the foremost leader in the region.
Following the retirement of former president Uhuru Kenyatta, a section of leaders from the mountain have been battling for the region’s kingpin position.
According to a video shared by Sauti TV, there appears to be a shift in the stance of Gachagua, who has been at political loggerheads with Narc-Kenya’s Martha Karua and Jubilee’s Jeremiah Kioni.
The deputy president has now invited the two Azimio politicians for discussions on charting a way forward for the mountain people.
The second-in-command urged the mentioned Azimio leaders from the mountain to cease organising gatherings with the populace.
Gachagua echoed President William Ruto’s sentiments, emphasising the potential for significant outcomes from any proposed ideas.
He criticised them for conducting meetings with Limuru residents during severe weather conditions, pointing out the availability of an office for such engagements.
Meanwhile, in November 2023, the deputy president shared his busy schedule stating that he is too busy to engage in the battle for a kingpin position.
He urged those interested in the position to vie for it as he focuses on the country’s development agenda, as mandated by President Ruto.
