Still on the topic of the UEFA champions league, we will be looking at eleven of the finest players never to have won the trophy during their playing career.
In goal we have arguably one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time Gianluigi Buffon, he was so close but could not add the UEFA champions league to his world cup and many other club trophies he won.
In defence the iconic trio of Cannavaro, Thuram and Mathaus are the greatest defenders to never win the UEFA champions league, in midfield the gifted trio of Cesc Fabregas, Patrick Viera and German midfield supremo Michael Ballack missed out despite playing with some of the best clubs in Europe.
Then in attack some of the world’s gifted strikers and play makers including Ronaldo, Totti, Dennis Bergkamp and Zlatan Ibrahimovic never got their hands on the trophy.
