Graca was first married to Samora Michael, who was the President of Mozambique in 1975, when they were both very young. Grace and Samora were given two children. One daughter named Josinah and another boy named Malengane.

During a plane crash between South Africa and Mozambique in 1986, Samora Michael died.

Then, after a few years, Graca Machel met Nelson Mandela. Mandela was the former President of South Africa at the time of his death. They got married on Nelson Mandela’s birthday, July 18, 1994, which is when they got married. At the time, Nelson Mandela was still President of South Africa, and he was still in charge. The bad news is that Mandela died of Pneumonia on December 5, 2013.

They had a love that was pure love and peace until Nelson Mandela died. Graca was happy when Mandela stopped to give her some chocolate before the wedding, which was said in his biography. It was even Mandela’s own words that said, “Graca Michael makes me bloom like a flower.
