According to WebMD, urinary hesitancy is a condition in which you have trouble initiating or maintaining a stream of urine flowing, or your flow may stop before your bladder is empty.

This condition normally develops gradually and may go unnoticed until it leads to urine retention, or an inability to pee, which can be uncomfortable. The following are some of the elements that contribute to this condition:

1. Enlarged Prostate

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is the term for prostate enlargement (BPH). It occurs when the prostate gland’s cells begin to multiply. These extra cells cause your prostate gland to enlarge, squeezing the urethra and restricting urine flow. It can also create difficulties with the bladder, urinary tract, or kidneys.

Disorders of the Nervous System

Neurogenic bladder occurs when neurological (nervous system) problems influence the bladder. Nerve damage caused by neurological conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, or diabetic neuropathy, brain and spinal cord injuries, and trauma/accidents can make it difficult for the bladder to signal the brain that it needs to be emptied.

3. Infection

According to healthline, Prostate inflammation can occur in men as a result of infection. Prostatitis is the medical term for this condition. According to certain research, bacterial infection of the prostate might cause urinary hesitancy.

In men, urinary tract infections (UTI) and sexually transmitted infections (STI) can cause urinary flow issues.

4. Shy Bladder

Paruresis, or shy bladder, is a condition in which a person is scared to use the restroom when others are present.

As a result, the sphincter muscles that control urine flow from your bladder get clogged. You won’t be able to pee once they’ve done so. It can happen in a public restroom, someone else’s private bathroom, or even your own home if other people are present.

5. Prescription drugs

When using some medications, such as cold and allergy remedies, antidepressants, nasal decongestants, and incontinence medications, people may have trouble releasing their bladder.

Urinary hesitancy may appear to be a minor problem, but it can lead to bladder infections and even kidney damage if left untreated. It’s critical to consult a doctor if you’re having increasing trouble urinating before you can’t urinate at all.
