The competition for the best defender in the English Premier League has been tight this season with the arrivals of Lisandro Martinez at Manchester United and the return from loan of Arsenal’s William Saliba.
Before the arrival of the duo, top defensive stars like Thiago Silva, Virgil Van Dijk, Ruben Dias, Trent Alexander-Arnold, João Cancelo, and Reece James have blessed us with top performances week in and week out.
Currently, the ranking of the best defensive stars in the English Premier League has changed. Reece James is currently injured while Virgil Van Dijk has not been at his best lately.
The performance level of the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson have also dropped. That said, below are the top ten best defenders in the English Premier League this season based on current form:

William Saliba has been a revelation since he returned to Arsenal last summer.
The French star has been instrumental to Arsenal’s title charge and his solid performance and his commanding aerial presence have helped Arsenal keep multiple clean sheets this season.
3. Lisandro Martinez (Manchester United)
Lisandro Martinez was deemed as a player not worthy of playing in the centre-back position for Manchester United after the Argentine star joined the Red Devils.
However, after 13 league games this season, no one is talking about the fact that he is 5ft9 again. This is a huge credit to his impressive and rock-solid performance for the Red Devils.
Martinez has helped solidify Manchester United’s defense as well as helped them keep five clean sheets in the English Premier League.
