Everton may rival West Ham in a potential bidding war for Harry Maguire as Manchester United continue to listen to offers for their former club captain this summer...CONTINUE READING THE FULL ARTICLE>>>
Everton are considering a move for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire – with the Red Devils interested in midfielder Amadou Onana going the other way.
Maguire looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer with boss Erik ten Hag having stripped the defender of the captaincy earlier this summer.
Behind Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw in the pecking order – a transfer looks inevitable.
West Ham have already seen one bid rejected for the England international, but they have now returned with an improved offer – believed to be in the region of £30million.
In addition, boss David Moyes is also keen to splash the cash brought in by the sale of Declan Rice to sign a new midfielder.
The Hammers failing to reach the valuation threshold for Maguire has left the door open for other clubs, with the Independent outlining how Everton are weighing up a move. That would unite the defender with his England international teammate Jordan Pickford.
Previously speaking to EnglandFootball.com, Pickford said of the central defender: “Harry is one of my best mates in football and I have played with him throughout my England career so far.”
In a separate interview during the World Cup, he added: “Myself and Harry have a great relationship. The majority of my caps have been with Harry playing in front of me and we work really well together. Our defensive record with Harry playing there is really good as well and he is in a very good moment.”
Which club should sign Maguire this summer
While United are eyeing a switch for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, the Mail claim they have held discussions over Everton midfielder Onana.
The Belgium international moved to Goodison Park from Lille a year ago and impressed on Merseyside despite the side’s struggles last season.
A further six first-team squad exits are expected from Old Trafford this month. West Ham’s interest in Maguire and Scott McTominay is well documented, although it is up to the east London club to increase their offers to an acceptable level for United chiefs.
Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly, Fred and Donny van de Beek are all set to leave United in the coming weeks on permanent deals. United will move to sign a central midfielder and central defender should their desired sales be processed.
