The 20-year-old had been named in the matchday squad 17 times this season but failed to make an appearance under Erik ten Hag. Iqbal changed agents recently, signing with Sports Entertainment Group – the same agency as Ten Hag – who promised him a move to the Eredivisie.

The midfielder joined United’s academy in 2012, working his way through the age groups before signing his first professional deal in April 2021.
