Manchester United‘s pursuit of Maurits Kjaergaard has hit a roadblock as the 19-year-old midfielder has no intention of making such a move to Old Trafford at this stage of his career....CONTINUE READING

Despite the Red Devils’ interest in the young talent following his impressive campaign with Red Bull Salzburg, Kjaergaard remains committed to his current club.

United manager Erik ten Hag has been actively seeking reinforcements for his squad.

Having made his debut for Salzburg in 2021, Kjaergaard has already made 63 appearances for the Austrian side.

In the previous season, the midfielder played a crucial role in Salzburg’s Austrian title victory and featured in all six of their Champions League matches, where he faced off against stars from Chelsea in Group E.

Speculation arose in April, with Salzburger Nachrichten reporting that Manchester United could outmaneuver AC Milan in securing Kjaergaard’s signature, with a potential transfer fee of nearly £13 million.

When questioned about the links with United and Milan, Kjaergaard told Bold.dk, “The clubs you mention are huge. Of course, I also dream of playing in one of the biggest leagues in the world, so of course that makes me happy to hear.

But I’m still young and I don’t stress about it at all. But when you hear those rumors, it just shows that you’re on the right track and doing a lot of good things at the club – so I just have to keep going.”

With his contract at Salzburg running until 2026, Kjaergaard is currently focused on representing Denmark in the Under-21 Euros this summer. He has made it clear that a move to a European powerhouse is not on the cards for the time being.

When asked if clubs like Manchester United and Milan can forget about enticing him away from Austria ahead of the new season, Kjaergaard responded, “Yes, right now they can.” He further stated, “If I keep progressing, I’m sure I’ll be at a big club one day – but I’m not in a hurry.

I’d love to spend another year in Salzburg because it’s a great club. I love the club, and we play in the Champions League. I also want a full season where I play every game and am a key figure in the team.

Although I feel like I’ve performed well, I believe I have more to offer. I don’t want to spend much time on the bench. So, another full season with Salzburg would make me happy.”

Under Ten Hag’s guidance, Manchester United experienced a positive turnaround last season, securing a return to the Champions League with a third-place finish in the Premier League.

The Dutch manager now faces the challenging task of recruiting players who can help the team compete for silverware across all competitions when the new season kicks off in August.
