Nura owns an Islamic school named Malam Nura Islamiya Suleja, located at the back of the old Nepa office in Suleja, Niger State .
He was said to have beaten the student, Mu’azu Isah, 11, mercilessly that he was taken to the hospital by residents who heard him crying.
Recounting the incident, the student, Mu’azu said that he was beaten because he could not read his books and the Quran, saying that it was not the first time his teacher would beat and inflict injuries on him.
“A few days ago, I wrote down my lessons but when it was time to read them, I couldn’t so he beat me. People did not see the scars so they started healing.
Then I started memorization some days after that day and I failed so he beat me again,” the minor said.
Mu’azu said he was from Kaduna State and that his parents sent him to the Islamic school.
He revealed that the teacher usually beats other children but his was worse because he could neither recite the Quran nor read what was written down.
The case was reported to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Suleja by a staff of the Madaki Foundation which led to the handover of the Islamic Teacher to the Niger State Child Rights Agency.
