In the 2021-22 season, Liverpool has been one of the most in-form teams. Since the turn of the year, the Merseysiders have been on a roll and have looked unstoppable.
Liverpool has already won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, defeating Chelsea in the finals of both championships on penalties. Many more players have stood up to the responsibility after Mohamed Salah’s unique brilliance shined through in the first half of the season.
Liverpool is one point behind Manchester City coming into the final day of the Premier League season. They will also face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final. This season, Jurgen Klopp’s side has a chance to achieve a historic quadruple and make history.
Let’s take a look at three of the top Liverpool players in 2022 without further ado.
3 Trent Alexander-Arnold
Alexander-Arnold has been in outstanding form throughout the season. With 12 assists from 31 appearances this season, he is second in the Premier League assist chart.
In 25 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions in 2022, he has eight assists. His best performances came against West Ham United on March 5, Inter Milan on March 8, Villarreal on April 27, and Chelsea on April 27. (FA Cup final).
2. Luis Diaz
Luiz Diaz has been a fantastic signing for Liverpool. They paid £40.5 million to sign him from Porto during the January transfer window. The Colombian international has settled in nicely and has established himself as a starter in attack.
On February 6, Dias made his Liverpool debut in the FA Cup against Cardiff. Diaz has six goals and five assists in 24 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s team in all competitions.
The 25-year-old has benefited much from the club’s stable and healthy environment. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a lightning fast attacker who’s always eager to take the game to the opponent.
He thrives at taking on defenders and is a difficult opponent to predict in the final third.
1. Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane did not score a goal or provide an assist in the final 11 games of 2021. Mane’s time at Liverpool appeared to be coming to an end with the arrival of Luis Diaz in the January transfer window. With the way things were going, he might have easily fallen behind Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in the pecking order.
In 2022, though, Mane has been in outstanding form for both club and country. Senegal won the AFCON 2021 and qualified for the World Cup under his leadership. Following the arrival of Diaz, Mane has had to reinvent himself at Liverpool, which he has done with aplomb.
The 30-year-old has evolved into a centre-forward and thrived in his new role. So far in 2022, he has 13 goals and one assist in 24 appearances for the Merseysiders in all competitions.
Mane’s improvement has been critical for Liverpool, especially because Salah’s contributions have dwindled since the turn of the year. Over the course of the year, the Senegal international has demonstrated his versatility and technical ability.
