The former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward was out for the majority of pre-season, having picked up a hamstring injury whilst with Portugal on international duty.

The Reds will be absolutely ecstatic to see Jota’s potential return, however, without having any pre-season, it may be a little while until he returns to full fitness.

Having Jota would have made a massive difference in Liverpool’s shocking start to the Premier League campaign, in which they have picked up two points from three games – their worst tally in a decade.

Jurgen Klopp’s men drew their opening two matches with Fulham and Crystal Palace before losing to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Only four goals have been scored across those three games, too, with Mo Salah (2), Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez the only men to bag at all in Liverpool Red this season.

Jota, who’s been dubbed ‘brilliant’ by Darren Bent, is a well-renowned big game player too, having scored against Manchester United (2), Arsenal (5), Manchester City and Tottenham during his time with the club so far.

It will be a welcome boost for Klopp and his staff, but they will need to ensure he recovers properly to maintain his fitness for the long season ahead.
