The legendary singer was described by Rolling Stone Magazine as the most famous singer in Senegal and a majority of other African countries. He began his musical career at the age of 12 back in 1972 before switching to politics and acting some time later.
From 2012 to 2013 he served as the ministry of tourism for Senegal. Currently, the 62-year-old has a total net worth of around $145 million hence the richest musician in Africa.
2. Akon
Akon is by far the best-selling artist from Senegal and Africa at large. Born in New Jersey USA the prolific singer rose to prominence in 2004 with the release of his debut album ‘Trouble’.
He is also the most charted African artist on the Billboard Hot 100. His accumulated net worth is approximately $80 million as of 2021.
3. Davido
Davido is not only one of the most influential Nigerian artists today but also the richest. According to Forbes (a reliable financial audit company), Davido has a gross net worth of around $40 million. The 29-year-old is also responsible for the longest-charting Nigerian Pop song on the Billboard Hot 100.
4. Wizkid
Wizkid is surprisingly the most-streamed Nigerian artist of all time on Spotify with a cumulative of 3.4 million streams.
The Afrobeats superstar skyrocketed to fame by collaborating with Drake on his 2016 project ‘one dance’. In 2021 he was ranked as the second richest Nigerian singer by Forbes with a net worth of $20 million.
5. Burna Boy
The last one on this list is Burna Boy who closely follows his Nigerian counterpart Wizkid with an estimated net worth of 17.2 million. He is the first African to achieve back-to-back nominations at the Grammy awards.
