“I don’t want to escalate or add fuel to the fire. In the world of football, silences are important, I wish Bayern all the best and I have no doubt that the entire management of the club feels the same. That’s why I remain convinced that we will find an agreement together,” the Pole said of his current situation.
“It’s time for a new phase
“I have always tried to do my best to live up to the expectations of the team and the fans. I thank the Bayern fans, who have always supported me. But if I wasn’t honest about my situation, I would feel that I’m not being fair to the fans,” said Lewandowski, who was always keen to make sure the Bavarian club’s supporters understand his position.
He added: “I am not a selfish person. I’ve been doing my best not to disappoint the club and the fans for the last eight years, but after this time I feel it’s time for a new phase,” he said.
Bayern are aware of the striker’s thoughts at all times. “I informed the club and said publicly that I had taken the decision not to renew my contract. I know I have one more year on my contract and I asked the club for permission to leave, I think that’s the best solution. I want the speculation to end once and for all”.
