Thanks to Maddison’s strike, the visitors managed to score from their only shot on target in the game.
Chelsea, on the other hand, were wasteful despite having 68 percent of the possession of the ball.
Thomas Tuchel was particularly not impressed by Christian Pulisic’s missing a chance that the manager described as a “goal”.
Maddison even argued that he did not feel that threatened by Chelsea’s attack during the game.
“Chelsea had the dominance without hurting us too much,” the England international said in his post-match interview (via BBC).
“I can’t remember too many clear-cut chances they had.
“Sometimes you have to give up possession, but we were very solid in the block, and we can be a danger at counter-attacks.”
The Blues actually created three big chances in the game, including Reece James’s beautiful cross that set up Marcos Alonso’s equaliser.
Overall this season, however, they are steps behind the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, and even Tottenham Hotspur in big chance creation.
According to Opta (via Premier League), Tuchel’s men rank fourth in the league with 69 big chances created, while Liverpool lead the charts with (93), followed by Manchester City (84) and Spurs (78).
Kai Havertz has missed more big chances (11) than any other Chelsea player, while Pulisic and Timo Werner are second and third with six and five big misses, respectively.
