The Gunners who are currently sitting on top of the English Premier League table with 24 points, went into the game hopeful for a win to maintain their position.
The Villians saw Patrick Bamford miss a penalty in the second as they trailed 1-0 to Arsenal all thanks to Bukayo Saka who scored in the first half.
The Gunners maintained their lead until the final whistle was blown by the referee. There was a lot of video assistant referee involvement in the game as two bizarre decisions were taken in the closing hours of the game.
1. Leeds United was awarded a penalty in added time, and Arsenal’s defender, Gabriel sent off;
The host team thought they had got an opportunity to pull one goal back in the extra time after a foul was made by Gabriel which lead to a penalty. The referee showed Arsenal’s defender, Gabriel a red card.
2. VAR reverses the decision, Gabriel’s card is reduced to a yellow.
Well, the drama between Gabriel and Bamford didn’t end as easily as everyone thought. Gabriel was looking to allow the ball to bounce back to Ramsdale and blocked the Leeds United striker. Bamford bundles into the Brazilian, who kicks the Englishman in frustration.
Gabriel was initially shown a red card, but the referee had gone to the monitor. The nudge from Bamford was being checked for a foul and the decision was later reversed and the sanction reduced to a yellow card for the Arsenal defender.
