Four clubs from the EPL made it to the Round of 16 of the competition. However, only three of them made it to the last eight. These are Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC and Chelsea FC. These three sides won their first legs with clean sheets.
In the second leg, both Chelsea and Liverpool repeated the feat. Only the Citizens drew their own. The fourth English side in the second, Manchester United FC drew their first leg away but lost the return leg at home.
The La Liga sides had different fortunes. All the three Spanish clubs that made it to the Round of 16 qualified for the quarterfinals. These are Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Villareal. Of the trio, only Real Madrid won in the first leg.
The other two sides drew at home. In the second leg all the La Liga clubs won their matches comprehensively to qualify for the next round.
Bayern Munich of Germany and Benfica of Portugal are the two clubs that complete the 8 teams in the Quarter Final. As it stands, there are high possibilities that two English sides (as well as two Spanish sides) will be paired during the draws.
