Ahmed Usman Ododo, representing the All Progressives Congress, emerged as the winner of the Kogi state governorship election held on November 12, 2023, becoming the seventh civilian to assume the gubernatorial office since the state’s establishment on August 27, 1991, carved out of Benue and Kwara State.

On Thursday, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and the governor-elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo, attended the coronation ceremony of the new Ohinoyi Of Ebiraland, Alhaji Ahmed Tijani Anaje.

The event, which took place in the Okene Local Government Area of the North-Central State, drew the participation of high-ranking government officials, political figures, and traditional rulers.

The throne became vacant on October 29, 2023, following the demise of the former occupant, Abdul Rahman Ado Ibrahim, after a prolonged illness.

The event attracted top government officials, political figures, and traditional rulers. The kingmakers selected seven aspirants from an initial list of 75 candidates who applied to ascend the stool.

Those who made the longlist included Prof. Ibrahim Onuwe Abdulmalik; former deputy governor of Kogi State, Dr Philip Salawu; a former Clerk of the National Assembly, Ataba Omolori; and a retired military general, Yusuf Amuda. Others are Dr Ahmad Tijani Anaje, Ahmed Momohjimoh, and Momoh Shaibu.
