Ethnic diversity is one of the most essential aspects in Kenya, with over 40 tribes. Over the last few years, more and more tribes have been acknowledged in this country with an increasing number of official ethnic groups.

The indigenous African communities, which shifted from diverse regions of the continent, were the first people to settle in Kenya. Merchants, adventurers, and tourists from distinct parts of the world including Portugal, Arabia, Rome’s Empire, India, and Greece were also visiting.

In the 19th century, the German explorer Johann Ludwig Krapf wrote the earliest recorded version of this modern name. Krapf noticed the mountain while traveling with a Kamba caravan, headed by long-distance merchant Chief Kivoi

According to history, the name Kenya was formulated from Kamba terminology articulation of Mt Kenya’s formal title, Kirinyaga and Kinyaa.

On its snow capped glaciers, the mountain looked black and white from afar, so they referred to it as kii nyaa, the place of the male ostrich, which is black and white as described about the grey female.
