Mudukiza only needs KSh 750,000 for treatment, but so far, he has been unable to raise it despite multiple online appeals.

The Belgium Euthanasia Board is offering him KSh 3 million to help him undergo mercy killing, but according to their laws, they can’t transfer the money to him for treatment.

At only 29 years old, a Kenyan man has applied to go and die in Belgium after failing to get money for sickle cell anaemia treatment.

When the TUKO.co.ke crew visited Mudukiza at home, he revealed that he had just left the hospital after experiencing a crisis.

Mudakiza also revealed that the line is used for antibiotics, saline, and fluids.

According to Mudukiza, a crisis is an excruciatingly painful episode for people with sickle cell anaemia. For some people, it can be once in a while others experience it on a regular basis.

The 29-year-old shared that the condition has made it difficult for him to get a job or save money, as most of it goes for treatment.

According to the American Medical Association, assisted death is the act of deliberately ending a person’s life to relieve suffering.

According to Mudakiza, the procedure is not for everyone, and one has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that they are suffering.

The five doctors also refused to help him, arguing that they preserve life and not end it. The euthanasia board in Belgium told Mudakiza that he qualifies for funding to aid in travel and benefits.

Mudukiza needs KSh 750,000 for surgery that will help his quality of living, and the Belgians are willing to give him three times that to undergo the controversial procedure.

To go there, he would require a visa, accommodation and living expenses for himself and a caregiver for a month, which amounts to KSh 3 million.

He has never used more than KSh 200,000 for treatment in a year. Mudukiza’s family had a lot of investments, but they sold them to pay for their late dad’s treatment, and he is sure his mum would sell the last shamba she has for him, so he hasn’t told her.
