Before fleeing the area, the assailants destroyed property and injured several villagers.

As of the time of filing this report, the reason for the assault had not been determined, but it was learned that the community was currently in a state of panic.

Eze Kenneth Okereke, the community’s traditional ruler, confirmed the attack on Wednesday morning and called on security forces to come to his subjects’ aid.

SEVERAL seasonal migrants have been burnt to death at Gidan Bawa village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State by suspected bandits.

The migrants were said to be on their way to Gadan Gayan in Kaduna en-route the southern part of the country in search of livelihood when the incident occurred.

A source said the incident occurred on Monday morning when the vehicle the migrants hired for the journey was ambushed by the bandits who opened fire on them around Teke village in Gidan Bawa district.

The source said: “The bandits shot at the tyres of the vehicle, it somersaulted and burst into flames.”

It was observed that the bandits surrounded the burning vehicle to ensure that none of the passengers escaped. According to one of the vigilantes in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, the victims were from their area as well as neighboring Niger Republic.

“They were on their way to the southern part of the country in search of greener pasture,” he explained.

Another source who spoke with Nigerian Tribune said that there were 10 passengers in the vehicle and none of them survived the attack.

The former lawmaker, who represented the Kaduna Central during the 8th National Assembly, in a post on his verified Facebook page while reacting to the killing of about 42 persons in Sokoto State recently, said the incident would have triggered outrage if it were the previous government.

According to him, those who are keeping mum in the incessant killings are not different from the assailants.
