Over the summer, the 23-year-old defender’s departure from Stamford Bridge was hotly rumored, but the window closed with the defender staying in London.

Chalobah has four more years left on his deal with the Blues after signing a contract extension in November, but his future at the club is presently up in the air.

The former England Under-21 international has only appeared once this campaign, appearing in the entire 90 minutes of a Premier League match against Leicester City on August 27.

In the Champions League match last week against Red Bull Salzburg, which served as Graham Potter’s debut game in charge of the team, Chalobah was likewise an unutilized replacement.

The defender is expected to depart the Blues on loan during the January transfer window, and Roma are presently leading the pack in the race to sign him, with club manager Jose Mourinho eager to close a deal.

Chalobah said to talkSPORT last week, “I feel that when the chance comes, it comes. “I will always have patience because it’s not simple to play for a club like this; there will always be competition.

“Training with the best players every day is the best thing for all the players and for me, too. I make an effort to ignore extraneous noise and concentrate on what I’m doing and what I want to accomplish this season. The goal is to join the squad and participate in many of games this year.

Prior to being a first-team regular for Chelsea during the 2021–22 season, Chalobah had loan stints at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and Lorient. He made 30 appearances across all competitions during that time.

Malang Sarr, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Marcos Alonso were among the defenders who left the Blues over the summer, while Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, and Marc Cucurella joined the team.
