We’re all familiar with the old adage: ‘you get what you pay for’, but I must admit, I’m a sucker for a good bargain, sale or discount – especially when it promises a great deal! Recently, I came across these Amazon “mystery boxes” and despite the mixed reviews, I thought I’d take a punt and see what treasures I could unearth.....CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE>>>

I’m sure there are folks who’ve hit the jackpot with these boxes, bagging more than they bargained for – the promotional images certainly suggest a treasure trove of gadgets and gifts spilling out.

There’s a variety of these on Amazon and a few weeks back, I bought the WAGLOS “Waglos mystery electronic box” for £28.90. The description and image of the box listed a plethora of potential goodies including an iPhone, a smart watch, headphones, a TV and an X Box, wrote Molly Dowrick for Wales Online.

While I wasn’t holding my breath for these items, I was still hopeful. My mystery box turned up a few weeks post-order and my initial reaction was that the package on my doormat was rather small. “No worries,” I thought. “It could still hold something thrilling. Imagine if I landed something spectacular?!”

I excitedly ripped open the packet and inside was a small box secured within a lot of bubble wrap. A promising sign – if the contents were cheap, why would anyone bother to wrap them securely?

Once I peeled away the layers of bubble wrap, I found a red A5-sized box labelled “lucky box”, “box for you” and some foreign script. As I gently pulled off the sellotape from the box’s top, I felt a wave of optimism.

But alas! My hopes were quickly dashed. The box was a disappointment, containing only two items, hardly matching the abundance promised in Amazon’s listing.

Inside my Amazon mystery box

The first item unearthed from the ‘treasure’ chest was a pair of earphones, specifically SAYN A6 “bass heavy headset” as portrayed on the packaging. They guarantee “excellent sound quality” and having a musical journey that will help you “realise your escape plan,” at least according to what’s written on the packaging.

Although there are illustrations of three different audio jack options (a USB D, an iPhone, and a standard) on the package, the actual product comes with just the standard jack, making them useless for my iPhone. Luckily, they do connect to my laptop, but the promise of an extraordinary auditory escapade? Not quite.

The second treasure in my mystery box was a hefty watch, sporting a chunky face and a brown leather strap. It’s likely marketed as a man’s watch and certainly has a swanky look to it though it’s not branded.

Luckily, it’s ticking away thanks to an included battery and arrived in a sleek gift box, making it a potential present for someone!

Is it worth buying an Amazon mystery box?

I’m all for the thrill of the unknown and taking a punt now and then. This time around, however, the risk didn’t quite yield the rewards.

Much like the potluck of a Lucky Dip at a local fair, these boxes are hit or miss – and for nearly £30, I had hoped for either another item or something with a bit more wow factor.

The exact mystery box I snapped up is no longer available, but if you’re feeling lucky and want to try your hand at a mystery electronics box, you can snag a ‘BURLOE Waglos Mystery Electronic Box’ on Amazon for £30.90. Who knows, you might unearth gadgets like computers, gaming consoles, or smartphones…CONTINUE READING>>
