Low BP, reduces the amount of blood reaching the brain. This leads to fainting or dizziness.

It can be due to a family history of low blood pressure or medication side effects.

Normally, blood pressure goes up and down in response to daily regular activities, such as sleeping and moving around.

There are several types of hypotension depending on when it happens and what causes it. Some of them are:

1. Orthostatic Hypotension: This is due to movement from sitting or lying down to standing. This is referred to by some people as “seeing stars”.

Orthostatic hypotension is the most common form of low BP. It affects people of all ages but is more common in older adults and pregnant women.

2. Postprandial Hypotension: This occurs after eating. According to a 2010 review, low blood pressure after eating is more common in older adults.

3. Neurally mediated Hypotension: This is a result of abnormal reflex interaction between the heart and the brain. It is caused by long-standing time and emotional responses like feelings of shock.

Severe Hypotension: This can be life-threatening. It is usually caused by resulting from injury or infection.

It should be noted that Hypotension can also be a side effect of some medications. For example, medications used for hypertension (high BP).

Some of the symptoms of hypotension are:

– lightheadedness

– fatigue

– dizziness

– nausea

– depression

– loss of consciousness or fainting

– blurred vision
