The Premier League summer transfer window has seen the introduction of a wide range of exciting goalscorers....CONTINUE READING

Given the fierce competition for being the league’s top scorer last time out, this season is bound to be even tougher. However, the new arrivals will find it hard to pip the others to the post.

This is the view of talkSPORT’s Trevor Sinclair, anyway.

The former England ace was asked by talkSPORT Breakfast co-host Alan Brazil to rank the Premier League’s best strikers in terms of who will score the most goals this season.

Brazil’s list included Gabriel Jesus, who has moved from Manchester City to Arsenal to become their leading frontman and Harry Kane, who is staying put at Tottenham Hotspur.

In addition to this, Sinclair was asked to rank star boy Erling Haaland, who has moved from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City, and Darwin Nunez, who has made the switch from Benfica to Liverpool.

But Sinclair’s responses show he thinks the Premier League new boys won’t quite be able to edge some of the division’s best to win the coveted Golden Boot award.

“It’s difficult to look past Kane, because I think Tottenham [Hotspur] are going to be a threat this season, ” he began.

“And because he’s done it so many times, he’s so consistent.

“So I’d probably put him first.”

After some deliberation, Sinclair continued: “I’d say Haaland and Nunez, I’ll put them level, joint second.”

“Poor Jesus!” Brazil said in response to his co-host’s rankings.

But Sinclair soon jumped in to state he did believe the new Gunner had plenty of potential to compete.

“I think he’ll still get 15 plus [goals], I really do, so long as Arsenal produce!”

There is of course one longstanding bagsman that the pair didn’t include in their list of Golden Boot contenders – and that’s Ronaldo.

The Portugal international won the award back in 2007/08 during his previous stint at Manchester United.

He also came close to winning it last season, finishing one place below winners Son and Salah on 18 goals (five less than the victors’ totals).

He has of course won the Ballon d’Or on six separate occasions, too.

But given the ongoing lack of clarity surrounding Ronaldo‘s future at Old Trafford, who knows if the footballing legend will be registering any Premier League goals at all this season.

“I’d put #THFC’s Kane at the top!”

“I think #MCFC’s Haaland & #LFC’s Nunez are on the same level.”

“Then I’d go Jesus at #AFC, but I think he’ll still get 15+ goals!”
