One second, Antoine Griezmann and Thomas Lemar were side by side waiting to enter the match. The next moment, they were on the field giving Atletico Madrid the victory.

Griezmann scored after an assist from Lemar two minutes after they came off the bench together, and Atletico salvaged a 1-0 win at Valencia in the LaLiga on Monday.

Griezmann received a pass from Lemar and scored with a left-footed shot from outside the area that deflected on a defender before crossing the line in the 66th minute at the Mestalla Stadium.

Griezmann, yet to start this season, also scored in the opening win over Getafe.

The victory helped Diego Simeone’s team rebound from a disappointing loss to Villarreal in its home opener last weekend.

Second Tear Of Griezmann Loan DEAL

This Tuesday, Atletico Madrid activated the option to have Antoine Griezmann in the squad next season. It will be the second year of his loan deal with ‘Los Colchoneros’ as he is still owned by parent club, Barcelona.

Antoine Griezmann will play for Atletico Madrid in the 2022/23 season. The French striker will stay at the Wanda Metropolitano after the club have activated the option for a second year in his loan deal.

‘Marca’ reported this Tuesday that ‘Los Colchoneros’ spoke to Griezmann’s parent club, Barcelona, to exercise, and complete the deal.

Atletico and Barcelona reached the original loan agreement on 31st August, the final day of last summer’s transfer window. It included a particular condition. If he played 50% or more of Atletico’s games last season, the club from the Spanish capital would have to buy him.

Therefore, the clause still stands this year round. This means, if he plays in over half of Atleti’s matches next season, Madrid will have to pay 40 million euros for him.

The Frenchman himself tweeted the news this Wednesday suggesting that he would be continuing with ‘Los Colchoneros’ for at least another season.
