As the 2023 governorship election in Gombe State draws closer, the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party are working to win the State......READ THE FULL ARTICLE>>>
The incumbent Governor of the State, Governor Yahaya Inuwa of APC is seeking for reelection in office after he declared his intention to run for second term.
However, the ongoing crisis between Governor Inuwa and former Governor of the State, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje over the control of the party leadership in the state might affect APC chances of winning the State unless the leadership of the party can resolve it before the 2023 governorship election.
The power tussle between the two influential politicians degenerated few weeks ago when Senator Danjuma Goje was blocked from entering the State.
Available reports showed that the internal crisis is already affecting the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State.
According to a report by Vanguard Newspaper, 80 percent of ward executives of APC in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the State have resigned their positions because of the ongoing crisis between Governor Inuwa and Senator Goje.
A chieftain of APC in the State and former APC Chairman in Yamaltu/Deba LGA, Alhaji Sulaiman Ibrahim, disclosed that the executives of the party resigned their positions in protest to what they termed as “disrespect and ‘attack’ on Senator Goje’s convoy three weeks ago.
A similar thing might happen in other local government areas where loyalists of Goje are holding positions in the party unless the leadership of the party intervenes and resolves the crisis.
As a former Minister, a two-term Governor of the State, and Senator representing Gombe Central since 2011, Goje has been able to build a strong political structure and followers for himself in the State which might work against Governor Inuwa in 2023 if the crisis continues.
The main opposition party, PDP, might be the biggest beneficiary of the ongoing crisis between Governor Inuwa Yahaya and Senator Goje. If PDP is able to field a popular candidate in the governorship election, the party might beat APC because Senator Goje’s led faction might end up working against Governor Inuwa if the leadership of the party did not resolve the crisis before 2023.
