The former president landed in the country with the ECOWAS Mediation Team on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

Jonathan disclosed this on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon.

He said, “In Bamako, with the ECOWAS Mediation Team on a follow-up visit after the 60th Ordinary Session of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, which was held in Abuja on December 12, 2021.

We are always pleased with the opportunity to lend our support to the government and the people of Mali towards the success of the transition programme.”

Goodluck Jonathan served as the president of Nigeria between 2010 and 2015. The former president lost his reelection bid to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

The former Bayelsa governor has been a promoter of peace and democracy in Africa since he peacefully conceded defeat to President Buhari in 2015.

He was appointed as a Special Envoy to mediate for peace in Mali by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in 2020.
