Causes of goitre

Having too little iodine is the main cause of goitres. Iodine is important for your thyroid to make thyroid hormones. It takes more work for the thyroid to make thyroid hormone when you don’t have enough iodine. This makes the gland bigger.

Solid or fluid-filled cysts may form on the thyroid and cause it to swell, which can be a sign that something is wrong. Most of the time, these nodules are not cancerous at all.

4. Thyroid cancer

Cancer may affect the thyroid, which can cause the gland to swell on one side of the body, which can be dangerous. There aren’t as many cases of thyroid cancer as there are of benign nodules forming.
