Officers from Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office in Lake Charles, a city in southwest Louisiana, had a break from fighting crime as they tried to catch the notoriously rapid bird.
One officer was snapped reaching out towards the ragged brown-feathered bird, and a second image showed it cooped up in the back of the patrol car.
A Facebook post from the force read: “Just another day in the wild world of law enforcement: chasing down a renegade emu like it’s some kind of feathered fugitive!
The owner, Lori Gutierrez Richard, repsonded to the post saying: “Thanks to the two deputies for saving my girl! She’s back home and safe with her friends!”
Another woman joked: “For the sake of full transparency, we demand the release of the officer’s body cam footage in this apprehension. The public deserves to know.”
Another person added: “The story this Deputy will have for the rest of his life. Glad he got the pics to prove it.”
