It’s probably no coincidence that since the Reds sold him to Bayern Munich, Jurgen Klopp’s side are going through one of their worst periods in years.
Liverpool have only won two of their first seven outings across all competitions this season and were hammered 4-1 by Napoli in their Champions League opener in midweek.

And given how poor Trent Alexander-Arnold has looked this season, combined with how good Williams has been, it could wind up being a massive mistake by the Anfield outfit.
The problem with Alexander-Arnold is that regardless of how poorly he plays, he’s guaranteed to start the next game because Klopp doesn’t have a proper covering option, a Kostas Tsimikas to his Andy Robertson.
That means the England international is never under the same pressure as someone else in the first XI who could easily be rotated with somebody else if they suffer a dip in form.
Williams could and probably should’ve been that figure for Liverpool, but they took the £17 million and although it looked a decent bit of business at the time, it’s still early.
This time next year, selling Williams – who’s only 21 – could be viewed as a bigger mistake than Mane.
