Chelsea

Jorge Mendes reportedly met with Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly. They discussed the possible signing of Ronaldo, as Boehly happens to be a huge fan. The Blues also needed a centre-forward after Romelu Lukaku’s loan move to Inter Milan.

However, Thomas Tuchel decided against signing Ronaldo. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Chelsea board would have wanted the Portuguese to be at their club. But since the manager has the final decision and wants a different kind of player, the Blues won’t sign Ronaldo.

PSG

Moving to France was also an option for Ronaldo and his agent. The striker was offered to PSG but was rejected for two reasons.

A report from Julien Laurens stated that the first reason the French club rejected Ronaldo was that they weren’t convinced that he was the right signing for them. The second reason was that there wouldn’t be space for him on their wage bill.

Atletico Madrid

With a return to Real Madrid absolutely ruled out, there was still a chance for Ronaldo to return to the Spanish capital. It would be with Los Blancos’ rivals, Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona

At one point, before Barcelona signed Lewandowski, Ronaldo’s agent offered him to the club. This is according to Ben Jacobs.

It was a time when Barcelona weren’t sure of sealing a transfer for Lewandowski. Notwithstanding, the Blaugrana didn’t consider signing Ronaldo. They only had their focus on Lewandowski for the centre-forward position.
