Newcastle United started the match brightly, dominating possession & causing all sorts of problems for the Gunners defence, with the first real chance of the match falling to Saint Maximin who forced Aaron Ramsdale to a crucial save with a stunning shot.
Mikel Arteta’s men on the other hand, struggled to get out of their own half most times in the first half, with the attacking threats of Martin Odegaard & Bukayo Saka being neutralized by the Magpies backline.
Takehiro Tomiyasu got subbed off in the first half due to injury and also adding to Arsenal’s defensive woes.
Eddie Howe’s side got what they deserve in the second half as they opened the scoring after Saint Maximin played the ball down the line to Joelinton, who drove a delivery across the face of goal, Callum Wilson was on hand to finish, but the ball took a deflection off Ben White past Ramsdale for the opener.
Mikel Arteta made some changes, but those substitution weren’t effective, as the Tyneside outfit continued to dominate and create chances.
