In a match against Sampdoria, which would secure Fiorentina European football for the first time in six years if they won, they seemed as though they didn’t care from the start. In the 16th minute, Alex Ferrari scored after sloppy marking from a freekick, and Fabio Quagiarella made it 2-0 with a brilliant chip in the 30th minute.
The Viola started the second half brightly, but they were unable to create any chances and fell behind against Morten Thorsby in the 71st minute. In the 83rd minute, Abdelhamid Sabiri scored Samp’s fourth goal.
The only bright moment of the game came in the 89th minute, when Nico Gonzalez scored a penalty after an inaccurate handball. Omar Colley was sent off in stoppage time.
Juventus 2-2 Lazio
During Monday night’s game against Lazio, Juventus fans said their goodbyes to captain Giorgio Chiellini and forward Paolo Dybala – but the visitors’ last-gasp equalizer wrecked the farewell party in Turin.
Chiellini announced his departure from Juventus this summer after 17 years with the club, with MLS in the United States a possible destination. In the 17th minute, the centre-back was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt, who took off the captain’s armband and handed it to Dybala.
Dusan Vlahovic has already opened the scoring after lvaro Morata’s assist. While Chiellini shook hands with supporters and blew kisses to the crowd, Morata scored to put Juve in command of their final home game of the season.
With the final kick of the game, Milinkovic-Savic equalizes for Lazio, securing a deserved draw and securing European football for the Biancocelesti next season.
Juve believed they’d held on for the win, with Bernardeschi’s dynamism on both ends keeping them in the game, but Lazio came back late to share the points! What a late-season thriller, and what a performance from Lazio, who never, ever surrendered.
