Chelsea began their Premier League season in 2022-23 with a 1-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park.

After Raheem Sterling had a goal disallowed, Jorginho put Chelsea ahead with a penalty late in the first half. An eight-minute delay was caused by a major injury to Ben Godfrey early in the game.

Everton’s present lack of offensive alternatives were severely exposed during tonight’s game, which resulted in them being forced to play the ever-game Anthony Gordon as a makeshift center-forward in the game. The game was a difficult opening encounter for Everton.

Frank Lampard will have a clean slate in 2022–2023 after joining Everton in the middle of the season and narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

The loss of the talismanic Richarlison to Tottenham was obvious today, despite the fact that Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski were shrewd buys from Burnley after the club’s relegation.

Tottenham 4-1 Southampton

If Antonio Conte was serious about keeping expectations down on this side of North London, this was not the way to start.

Tottenham won just one of two games against Southampton last season and feared the worse when Ward-Prowse scored in the 12th minute.

Moussa Djenepo turned Emerson Royal and passed the ball to Ward-Prowse, who volleyed it beyond Hugo Lloris’ dive.

Conte has several choices at right wing-back, and Royal’s first contribution was a dive to earn a penalty. Andre Marriner was rightfully unimpressed.

As Spurs sought their rhythm, the visitors had another opportunity. Adam Armstrong half-volleyed Cristian Romero’s weak header. He yanked it wide.

Armstrong was upset because it wasn’t easy. He appreciated a two-goal advantage. Ralph Hasenhuttl suspected the same based on his distressed response on the touchline.

Mitrovic holds the record for most goals scored in a single championship season and opened the current season with two goals.

Fulham’s second goal came after Virgil van Dijk fouled him in the area.

Salah’s late goal for Liverpool ensured a draw in West London.
