The former Liverpool football club of England star beats other nominees to win the award, following her outstanding performance for Barcelona Women football club and Nigeria Super Falcons.
Asisat Oshoala had a remarkable spell at Barcelona football club last season, and she was able to score 20 League goals in just 19 appearances with 5 assists.
The Nigerian international suffered a lot of injuries last season, and she missed many matches for both club and country, but that doesn’t stop her from winning the prestigious award.
CAF named Asisat Oshoala as the winner of the 2022 Africa Women footballer of the year in Morocco on Thursday night and that marked her 5th time of winning the award, and she is now the first player in history to have won it five times in both Men and Women’s category.
Reacting after Asisat Oshoala won the Africa Women footballer of the year award for the record 5th time, FIFA posted on their verified Twitter handle on Friday that;
“Queen Asisat Oshoala, the five times Africa Women’s player of the year. Historic.”
