Bishop Oyedepo has sent a message to his congregation as they prepare to engage in their annual 21 days of prayer and fasting. In his message, he reminded them of what fasting is all about. The purpose of fasting, according to Bishop Oyedepo, is to make the spirit man to be more sensitive to the things of God, and not to change God’s mind.

It makes a lot of sense if you think of it. Numbers 23:19 says;

“God is not a man, that he should lie. He is not a human, that he should change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”

If God is truly omniscient, then would he ever change his mind? No! He would already know what would happen before it happens, so there would be no need for him to change his mind.

Christians should stop fasting with the mentality that they can change God’s mind by their fasting. I believe that shows a sense of spiritual pride. Rather, if we fast with the sense of finding out what God’s will is concerning a certain situation, and then alligning ourselves to fit into that will, wouldn’t that show that we are humble enough to receive from God?
