In an interview with the BBC, Onyekan addressed the Vatican recent release, stating that priests can bless same-sex and irregular couples in specific situations.
Despite interpretations suggesting a significant shift in the Catholic Church’s stance on same-sex marriage, Onyekan emphasized that, contrary to external pressures, the Church’s position remains unchanged, firmly opposing same-sex marriage.
He remarked, “Pope Francis hasn’t changed anything about that.
He did not change the church’s teaching on same-sex marriage.
